Contribute
The articles on this website aren’t just written by staff at the founding websites; you can contribute some too. If you’re interested in having an article published here, please read through the information below and get in touch.
What we’re looking for
We want to write articles that inspire and inform our readers. We’d like to make people think about their own practices and how they can improve them by learning from others. We want to start meaningful discussions and improve the standard of independent sites like our own.
Articles can cover almost anything in the scope of running or writing for a volunteer-run videogames website, including the following topics:
- Web design
- Web development
- Management and HR
- Finances
- Writing
- Editing
- Relationships with PR
- Freelancing
- Careers advice
This is not an exhaustive list though; if you’ve got an idea for an article which you’re not sure is appropriate, then please contact us to discuss it.
What we’re not looking for
There are already plenty of websites out there that cover subjects like generic web design and development, so won’t publish anything that isn’t presented in the context of the websites we run. We’re also not interested in lists because they rarely go into enough depth in their subject.
Please note that we will also not publish an article that has already been published elsewhere, including your personal site.
Writing your article
Try and keep your article between 500 and 900 words in length. You can use images and code snippets if you’d like; please make any special formatting clear in your article.
In terms of tone, we don’t want articles to be This is how you should run a site, but This is how we do it and why you might like to do the same. Write in your own style and use examples when appropriate.
Submitting your article
Please email us your article as an attachment. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can, usually within a week.
